WHAT?
A gift card isn’t exactly revolutionary, is it?
Actually, it is. Why should a gift card always mean buying new clothes? Because that’s how we’ve learned to think. Because the clothing industry makes money when we keep buying more. But what if we flipped things around?
We’re testing a new kind of gift card that lets you choose: Buy something new, or use the money to repair something you already own. Give your favourite garment a few more years of life instead of buying a new one.
And no, you don’t even need to own clothes from Northern Playground. We repair clothes from all brands*.
This gift card doesn’t fit the profitable “take, use and throw away” business model. But the business superheroes of the future will do things differently. Let’s be the first to lead the way and inspire others!
*Any brand, but not complex repairs such as Gore-Tex garments or zip replacements.
HOW IT WORKS
The company orders the gift cards. Northern Playground sends them by post or digitally.
Employees choose whether to use their gift card to buy products in our store or online, or to repair clothes they already own.
The company decides how many gift cards to order and their value. We offer companies a 20% discount on the gift card value. For example, a gift card worth NOK 1,000 costs NOK 800.

Number of gift cards, desired value, invoicing details, contact information and a designated contact person.
DROPPING OFF CLOTHES FOR REPAIR
For now, our repair service works best for people who can drop off their clothes at our store in Oslo. Sending clothes by post is also possible, but we don’t yet have an equally smooth solution for this type of handover.
THE BEST GIFT IN THE WORLD?
Some people will use it to repair a pair of trousers they love. Others will choose a new piece of clothing they’ve had their eye on. Either way, there’s a much better chance the gift will actually be used rather than forgotten in a drawer.
At the same time, you’re helping us make repairs a bigger part of our business. We want to show that repairs can become a central part of the future business model for the textile industry.
Our short-term goal is concrete: to grow our repair team here in Oslo from roughly one full-time equivalent to two.
